Geoff Guerrero’s uniquely crafted ceramics,  Sumi-e ink paintings, photo-collaged, prints, and watercolor art has been shaped and influenced by his Southern California upbringing. Working with diverse mediums, his artistic designs reveal a balanced vision of working styles, retaining a lively expressiveness and creative vitality. Personal experiences inspire his visions of coastal infused light and whimsical, timeless images.

The quaint oasis of Redondo Beach became the ideal environment to begin Geoff’s creative journey. With encouragement from teachers and mentors, his high school award-winning ceramic pieces grew into a foundational platform for future expression and exploration in art and music.

Having been gifted a Canon 35mm camera during his college years, the camera was added as another vehicle of expression. Guided by an inner creative voice, Geoff began documenting, experimenting, drawing, painting, and collaging on printed photo surfaces and other materials.

Studying with renowned teachers, abstract painter Matsumi Kanemitsu from the Otis Art Institute, and master printmaker Ernest Rosenthal from Cal State Dominguez Hills, Geoff was afforded space and freedom to reform the boundaries between painting and photography. The results became an organic hybrid of artwork spawning many important visual series and expressions. The work still retains a vitality, clarity, and richness of compositional approaches.

After experiencing Geoff’s exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Sales and Rental Gallery in 1988, Chicago gallery owner and curator Susan Pertl commissioned him to produce a series of large, photo-collaged works and other selected catalogue images for the corporate offices of the McDonald’s Corporation.

In 1998 Geoff was invited to the 17th Annual Gold Coast International Ceramic Exhibit in Queensland, Australia as well as the Tweed River Gallery in New South Wales. Geoff maintained a studio at Angel’s Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, CA until moving to his home studio in 2001.

During his twenty-seven-year career as a well-respected visual arts teacher, Geoff taught and mentored hundreds of students, many of whom have pursued visual arts in college and professionally. In 2010 he was named Educator of the Year by The Rotary Club of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Geoff Guerrero’s work is in public and private collections in the United States, Europe, and Australia. He currently resides and works in his 1927 Spanish Revival home studio, in historic Old Torrance, CA.
