Notary Public notarizing a Passport, Birth Certificate or college transcript

A California Notary Public cannot "certify" a passport, birth certificate, marriage records, death certificate, driver license or college degree or college transcripts...etc. We can however notarize your signature on a document that states you are in possession of the original document (Copy Certification By Document Custodian form). You will be "certifying" your own copy by signing your name under oath and penalty of perjury. You must contact the requesting party to find out if they need a "copy of your passport certification by document (you) custodian" notarized or certified copy of your passport records. As a California notary by law we can not tell you or recommend which notary form may work for you. This information MUST be provided by the requesting party.

Here are two questions to ask yourself:
1. Can a notary notarize a "copy" of your Drivers License, Passport or College transcripts or other documents? Yes

2. Can a notary notarize your Birth, Death, Marriage or Divorce Certificate (VitalCheck), Drivers License (DMV) or Passport? No

Ask the person/company requesting the notarization which type of document they need.
